The lymphatic system is our body’s ‘sewage system’. The lymphatic system is important for the optimal functioning of our organs, tissues, and cells. It the the other half of our circulatory system and the co-worker of every other body system. Almost all symptoms and diseases have a root-cause in the lymphatic system.

Our Approach & What to Expect at Your Visit

During a session, lymphatic fluid is directed towards lymph nodes which act as filters to cleanse and purify cellular waste. Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system has no means of independently pumping or moving throughout the body.  The only means of lymph fluid circulation is from the body’s movements such as exercise, deep diaphragmatic breathing, and of course, MLD.

What happens in a MLD session?

While laying on a massage table, clients undress and relax under a cozy blanket. The therapist uses her hands to manually move lymphatic fluid around the body using light pressure. No oils, lotions, or creams are used on the skin. The therapist’s movements are short, slow, and rhythmic creating a hypnotic-like state of relaxation. Abdominal work is almost always integrated, along with diaphragmatic breathing. In some cases, chest and breast work will be suggested to assist with glandular drainage and relevant symptom relief.

What MLD is - VS - What MLD is not

What it is: MLD is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy that is highly beneficial for pre/post-op surgeries of all kinds. It is a great option for general health and wellness and is an effective way to improve lymph flow for sluggish, stuck systems or for anyone who has had lymph nodes removed.

What it is NOT: MLD is not a massage. It is not body contouring/sculpting. It is not for incision drainage. And, it is not a “miracle cure” for weight loss or cellulite.

Length and Frequency of MLD Sessions

Full-body MLD sessions are 90 minutes each. MLD may be incorporated into other types of bodywork as a supplemental therapy for specific situations. It is recommended to incorporate monthly MLD sessions for general health and wellness and more frequent sessions for symptom relief.

Additional Benefits of MLD

Stress and tension relief, arthritis relief, boosts energy levels, assists in weight loss, improves acne and psoriasis, reducing bloating, relieves sinus congestion, relaxes muscles, improves sleep, pregnancy edema, and infection/illness prevention.
